A PRAYER FOR WEEK 1
“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
On July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig, a baseball legend, gave a farewell speech. Aged only 35 years, he was retiring because of a degenerative disease. He called himself ‘the luckiest man on the earth’. He was grateful for the encouragement from fans; opportunities to associate with his team’s owner and General Manager; friendship with Miller, a teammate; training under the best manager. He acknowledged even his competitors. He praised his wonderful mother-in-law, his diligent parents and his wife, whom he described as “a woman of great courage and his tower of strength”. He ended by saying that even though life was tough, he had an awful lot to live for. He died two years later from the disease which was named after him. Does that sound like someone who had a disease that was wasting away his muscles and caused slurred speech, etc?
ACTION: Let us choose an attitude of gratitude that makes us 25% happier, eliminates stress and boosts self-esteem.
PRAYER: Lord, we are thankful for life and blessings for such a time as this.
