“Any one of you can make a thousand men run away, because the Lord your God is fighting for you, just as he promised.”(Joshua 23:10)

One would think these words are not to be taken literally, surprisingly there were literal fulfilments in the battles of the Israelites with the Canaanites and in the life of Samson: “Then Samson found a jawbone of a donkey that had recently died. He reached down and picked it up, and killed a thousand men with it.”(Judges 15:15) This Word is also for us! Alleluia! Let us also note that accomplishment of this divine promise depended on the Israelites’ inviolable fidelity to God’s law. These conditions apply to us too! Whatever happens, we should not let the sight of a thousand men frighten us. Lao Tzu says: “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

ACTION: Courageously and in faith, take the first step with the confidence that our God fights for us at such a time as this.

PRAYER: Lord, please strengthen us to live out our lives with purpose, assured that God will always keep His promise.
