ARE YOU READY FOR A HARVEST?
“It is the hardworking farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops.”
(2 Timothy 2:6)
The Bible uses farming as an analogy to reveal some great spiritual truths. It teaches us how we can plant spiritual seeds by working hard and giving generously. The hope of the harvest and reward should make us to patiently cultivate spiritual growth and winning souls, as well as growth in our work. Our seeds are watered by the Gospel and knowledge, right application, training, diligence and dedication in the workplace for much fruitfulness. The Lord’s promise for the diligent is to have the first share of the harvest.
The two farmers: The novel for The Roses Ministry Youth Seminars a few years ago was “Facing the Giants”. In the book and movie, Coach Grant Taylor worked very hard but faced many challenges that seemed to constitute hurdles to his raising his team to be the best. He prayed hard and he worked hard. His encourager, Mr Bridges said to him: “Grant, I heard a story about two farmers who desperately needed rain. And both of them prayed for rain. But only one of them went out and prepared his fields to receive it. Which one do you think trusted God to send the rain?” Coach Taylor answered, “The one that prepared his fields for it.” Said Mr Bridges: “Which one are you? God will send the rain when He’s ready but you need to prepare your field to receive it.”
ACTION: Prepare your field, as a diligent farmer! Evangelise, work hard and give generously. Prepare the fields for the work of your hands too.
PRAYER: Lord, as I labour hard for a good harvest, please send the rains for the increase, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
