26 MAY

PILLAR OR CATERPILLAR?

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2.

We may be pillars – strong support and anchor for ourselves, our family, our friends and the church and the Gospel of Christ; or caterpillars that destroy. Being a pillar involves allowing God to transform us by changing our thought process and then the Holy Spirit renews, re-educates and redirects our minds to discern the will of God. The Lord grants us grace to have a healthy self-esteem, neither having a bloated and overestimated thought of self nor allow ourselves to be trampled on because we think too little of self or are too self-critical.

The key to an honest and accurate self–evaluation is knowing that the basis of our self -worth is our identity in Christ. We see the caterpillar as destructive to our plants but the destructive caterpillar may moult to become the beautiful butterfly that is useful even to those same plants whose leaves they eat up. So, irrespective of one’s previous lifestyle, the one who submits to Christ’s authority and discipline may be transformed to discern and do what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God. This person may become an asset to the kingdom of God like St. Paul.

ACTION: Be a pillar, not a destroyer.

PRAYER: Lord, please make me a pillar and butterfly and not a caterpillar in my relationships, home, workplace and community.
