WALK IN THE LIGHT

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

(John 8:12)

God gave the Israelites the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night as the physical manifestation of His presence, protection and guidance on their journey to the Promised Land. God has given us the Bible – His Word – for in it we find that same assurance of His presence, protection and guidance in our journey to our heavenly home.

Following the Master reminds me of a blind man who holds on to a stick as he follows the person who holds the other end of the stick and leads him wherever he chooses. We must follow our Master, Jesus like the blind man, wherever he chooses and leads us. He is the Light of the world; so wherever He leads, there cannot be darkness.

We also have our Lord living within us as the Holy Spirit, so we have the light inside us. We must allow this light to shine on our path as well as be a light for others to walk in the way of truth. 

Two of the reasons why candles are lit in church are to represent this pillar of fire but more importantly to reflect Jesus Christ as the Light of the world. Is Jesus the light of your world? 

ACTION:  Follow Jesus, light your own candles always and light other candles.
