FRAGRANCE OF THE ROSES – 27TH DECEMBER

Spread the Good News

27 DECEMBER

 SHE SAID “YES!”

“And they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” She said, “I will go”.
(Genesis 24:58)

At the right season, even without seeing the man who would be her husband, Rebekah said “Yes”.  That was in those days. Nowadays, many young people would not even date someone who is not in the same town as they are; and they often desire long period of courtship to get to know the person.

At the right time it is a very exciting experience to find a spouse. The excitement carries on to the wedding day. But, as important as these may be, are they really a guarantee for a successful marriage? Many marriages with long courtships have failed and many without even knowing each other much have succeeded. This shows that God is the most important factor.

Abraham’s mature and dedicated servant went to God’s chosen people (no unequal yoke). He was at the right place – a place of diligence, a place where deep character traits could be observed. He was sensitive to God’s direction. He prayed for success, wisdom and guidance with specific requests and while he was yet speaking he received the answer.

Young man, how do you choose your spouse?

Rebekah was a passionate woman, sensitive to God’s plan. She wanted and prayed for a godly man and God answered her. She took initiative when there was a need and was accomplishment-oriented but was not always balanced with wisdom. Yet, God used even her mistakes to accomplish His purpose.

Young woman, passion and initiative must be accompanied by wisdom and guidance from God.

ACTION:  What are your guiding principles in making important life decisions?

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please grant me wisdom and guidance in my choices.
