27 SEPTEMBER

SERVE GOD IN OLD AGE

“Now Joshua was old and advanced in years, and the Lord said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to possess.” (Joshua 13:1)

I remember that, in my youth, the members of the Parish Church Council of many Anglican churches were older and retired men, full of wisdom and knowledge from the experiences of life. Many of them were uncompromising Christians who feared no one and dedicated their lives to the service of God.

Joshua had led the Israelites across the Jordan, conquered Jericho and taken possession of the Promised Land. He had obediently divided the land and allotted portions, as instructed, to the tribes. He had dismissed the army, expecting each tribe to take responsibility to clear out the remaining enemies from their land. He was now old but God still had work for him to do.

Are you old? Have you been working from your youth in the service of God or have you just been saved? God still has work for you to do–there is no retirement in God’s service. It may be your wisdom, knowledge or substance–and not your physical strength–that is needed to fight the battles and possess the unconquered spiritual and physical territories for Christ.

ACTION: Resolve not let your talents and knowledge waste in the grave.

PRAYER: Use me, Lord, to impart practical knowledge, experience and principles of your Kingdom for the benefit of the younger generation of believers around me.
