HIDDEN IN CHRIST

“Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

(Colossians 3:2-3)

Putting heaven’s priorities and God’s perspectives into daily practice, the eternal rather than the temporal, is the antidote to materialism and emptiness. Many seek to hide themselves in relationships, status, money, fashion, addictions, etc., for happiness. For women especially, our hearts long to be hidden in someone – especially a male partner or husband – who will protect, love and cherish us immensely for who we are and who we are becoming. Sadly for some women, this quest ends in broken hearts, consuming emptiness, and wasted lives. However, finding the unconditional love of Jesus Christ heals the broken hearts, fills the emptiness and gives hope and renewed lives. 

Just as the seed which is buried (hidden) in the soil dies to bring out a seedling which grows into the plant and soon bears fruits, so we who are hidden and buried in Christ have to die to sin and self to become alive and fruitful spiritually. We are concealed, safe and secure in Christ. Our hearts do not depend mainly on an earthly love relationship to find our peace but are satisfied by God’s transforming and fulfilling presence and love.

I love this quotation by Maya Angelou: “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God, that a man should have to seek Him first to find her.” Young girls, especially, must take note of this.

ACTION: PRAYER: Hidden in Christ, dead to sin and self, alive in Christ! May we receive peace and hope in Christ as we place ourselves in Him.
