JOHN’S IDENTITY OF JESUS (4)
“I am the good shepherd…”(John 10:11,14)
Jesus is the Good Shepherd. This reminds me of David in the Bible: “But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep sheep for his father. And when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the flock, I went after him and struck him and delivered it out of his mouth. And if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and struck him and killed him”(1 Samuel 17:34-35).
Did he really do that? Yes. What a feat!
David described the details of how he killed the lion and bear that came against his sheep. Then he continued, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear…” (1 Samuel 17:37) Aha, now we know – it was not by David’s power but the Lord’s! That same power is available for us when we follow His instructions.
We have the Good Shepherd, who loves us and even laid down His life for us. Whenever we face daunting challenges, we should remember God’s past help, use our God-given skills and move forward with strength, courage and reckless fearlessness as and when the Lord directs.
ACTION: Has the Lord instructed you to take any decision lately? Go ahead and do it – the Good Shepherd will guide you every step of the way.
PRAYER: Lord, may the Holy Spirit remind me always especially in difficult times that you are my Good Shepherd.
