18 MARCH

I STOPPED TO HELP HER CRY

“Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

A story is told of a little girl who was late coming home for supper. Her mother made the expected irate parent’s demand to know where she had been. The little girl replied that she had stopped to help Janie, whose bicycle had broken in a fall. “But you don’t know anything about fixing bicycles,” her mother responded. “I know that,” the girl said. “I just stopped to help her cry.”

We can bear each other’s burden through physical help and through prayers for each other. Sometimes just a listening ear, or a crying shoulder is enough. We should not increase others’ burdens, especially through our words and actions, as well as inactions.

We need to think about how our actions will affect others before we act. Love is practical. Be a help to those in any need, trouble, emergency or sorrow.

My heart is bleeding at the gory pictures and stories of the heartless, unwarranted destruction of lives that herdsmen and bandits are carrying out, especially in some states of Nigeria.

ACTION: Just as we all did in prayers and social media for the Chibok girls, please pray that our God and our government will arise and stop this carnage.

PRAYER: Father, Lord, I pray today for those who are burdened with sorrow, sickness and other challenges, please, intervene in their situations in Jesus’ name.
