YOU CAN BE SINCERELY WRONG (2)

“And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.”

(Acts 17:11, NLT)

Yesterday, we saw how Uzzah, who seemed not to know the law about the consequences of touching the Ark of God, paid the supreme price. In those days, the Word of God was in scrolls read by scribes. So, was there no scribe to read the law from the scrolls on the instructions before such a major activity?
Now we have different versions of the Word in the written, oral and electronic forms. We have no excuse. Beloved, if you do not study God’s Word, you will be ignorant of His instructions and expectations. You could be sincerely mistaken from lack of knowledge.
If we listen to religious teachings and do not confirm that such teachings are in line with the Scriptures – just as the Berean Christians did – we could be sincerely wrong and the consequences could be disastrous. However, beyond reading, as we meditate on the Scriptures, the Holy Spirit teaches and reveals the depths of the truth therein. Even our desires must be subject to the Scriptures and this could only be from what we know. Atwood H. Townsend rightly said, “No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.”

ACTION:  How much time do you devote to studying and meditating on the Scriptures?

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be more committed to studying and meditating on your Word, as “a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).
