WHERE IS YOUR TREASURE?

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

This verse, in context with the preceding verses, is really about treasures in heaven. I believe we would all desire to store up treasures in heaven, which is eternal, more than on earth where they can be destroyed or lost. But, then, what happens to our beautiful cars, homes, clothes, jewelleries, etc. some of which are more than we need? Well, we may need to do a self–audit from time to time. What we treasure most controls us. If possessions become too important to us, we must re–establish control, which may be by getting rid of some.

How can we store up treasures in heaven? Yes, giving is investing in heaven. But laying up treasures in heaven goes beyond the money and other resources, as well as the time and talent that we give for the work of Christ’s Kingdom here on earth, and to the hungry, the sick, the thirsty, the naked and the imprisoned. We can also invest in heaven by investing in things that will build our character, bring souls into the Kingdom and encourage fellowship in the body of Christ.

However, in all these, it is most important to have the right motive, to love God and others, and to ensure that all we do is in obedience to God, and with the intention to fulfil His will and purpose.

ACTION: Begin to actively invest in heaven than you invest on earth, through your lifestyle and giving.

PRAYER: Father God, give us wisdom and the right spirit to invest in eternity according to your will.
