FRAGRANCE OF THE ROSES – 29 March

29 MARCH

THE DAY IN–BETWEEN

“The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate…. So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.”  (Matthew 27:62, 66)

The Saturday before Easter (that is, Holy Saturday), the chief priests, the Pharisees and Pilate continued their evil plans. Even in death, they were afraid of the Messiah.

What do you think was happening to the disciples? A day of disappointments, of waiting and wondering, failing hope in a Word with no real evidence, fear, confusion, tears and pain.

Questions must have gnawed at their minds: Is this how it will end? Where is Jesus? Where is our King and Saviour?

Challenges, such as death of a young person, and terminal illnesses, such as cancer, bring about these types of feelings. I have seen some who went through this intense and wicked pain with the hope of healing till the end. That is the Saturday, the time in–between life in the world and the life in the world to come.

Thank God, we know how it ended. Weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning. Thank God, JESUS IS ALIVE! Thank God, our loved ones who believed till the end are alive with the Lord! Thank God, our hope is not only in this life! Thank God, we have a Saviour who loves us, cares for us and intervenes in our circumstances!

ACTION: Keep your hope alive, for God is faithful and will fulfil his word.

PRAYER: Thank you, Lord, for you know the end of all things.
