RUN TO WIN!
“Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.”
(1 Corinthians 9:25)
I remember watching the long distance events in the 2012 Summer Olympics. Excitement filled the air as Mo Farah, looking almost frail at the beginning, moved deftly. …As we all jumped up to thunderous clapping and screaming, I wondered how many hours he had put in to train and the sacrifices he had made to achieve this feat. The athlete exercises self-control in all things, especially during training.
Athletes train to achieve a perishable medal or trophy but Christ has called us to follow Him for an imperishable crown.
ACTION: According to Jesse Owens, “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” Reflect.
PRAYER: Lord, teach me the long-time value of discipline and hard work.
